Adjustable Balance Arm Desk Lamp with Leather Base, Scandinavian Mid-Century
Original Ateljé Lyktan model 781B desk lamp, Sweden, 1960s. Chromed steel balance arm with central ball-joint pivot. Designed by Anders Pehrson. Cylindrical black lacquered metal shade, tiltable. Round base upholstered in black leather with cream saddle stitching. Single E14 socket.
Description:
The 781B is one of the most refined desk lamps produced by Ateljé Lyktan of Åhus, Sweden during the 1960s. The design is built around a counterbalanced chrome arm with a central sphere pivot, allowing the shade to be repositioned freely in both angle and direction. The cylindrical shade in matte black lacquered metal concentrates light precisely downward. The weighted base is upholstered in black leather with visible saddle stitching — a material choice that sets this model apart from most Scandinavian contemporaries and gives it an understated tactile quality. Ateljé Lyktan was founded in 1947 and became one of the leading Swedish lighting manufacturers of the postwar decades, supplying both the domestic and contract markets.
Condition:
Used, honest vintage condition consistent with age. The chrome arm is in good overall condition with minor surface marks. The black lacquer on the shade shows scattered scratches and small chips across the surface. The leather base shows age-related wear throughout: surface scratches, scuffing, and cracking at the outer edge where the leather meets the stitching. The saddle stitching is intact. The ball pivot joint is functional. Socket operational.

Product Safety
This lamp is an original vintage piece. Prior to sale, a visual and functional inspection was carried out (cable, plug, socket, strain relief) as well as a test run. It has not been comprehensively tested in accordance with current VDE standards. Due to its age, the electrical components may pose risks (e.g. aged insulation, missing earth conductor). Before connecting to the 230V mains, it is therefore strongly recommended to have the lamp inspected and, if necessary, updated by a qualified electrician. Use is at the owner's own risk.
