Sometimes, it takes life's most intense turning points to guide us toward where we truly belong. My journey into the art and design trade began 30 years ago in Berlin – in the midst of a personal crisis where I desperately needed a challenging intellectual distraction. I found it in collecting historical 18th-century Fürstenberg porcelain.
Back then, in 1990s Berlin, a newcomer without a formal academic background in art history stood absolutely no chance in the established trade. No one would show you their cards. But the thrill of the hunt had already taken hold. I unearthed pieces that weren’t documented in any textbook, flipped them for a profit, and over the decades built the world’s largest private collection from the earliest years of that manufacturer. At my very core, I am a truffle pig: when I spot an undiscovered object, I lock in. I will research for days on end until I unearth its exact history, its designer, and the absolute truth behind the piece.
The final catalyst to launch this online shop at the age of 56 was a painful wake-up call. A very close friend was diagnosed with stomach cancer at just 48 years old. It brought back haunting family ghosts – my father passed away at 44, my grandfather at 47. In that moment, I knew with absolute certainty: if I don't build my own gallery now, I never will.
After a frustrating detour through platforms like Etsy, where historical art is barely appreciated, I found my true calling: 20th-century designer lighting. Lighting allows me to perfectly utilize my decades-long research expertise. In the professional trade, flawlessly verifying authenticity is non-negotiable. I don't settle for guesswork – I demand certainty.
Even though I have only been focusing intensely on lighting for a relatively short time, the results in this shop speak for themselves. Every single piece you find here – from untouched Ateljé Lyktan rarities to sculptural masterpieces by Ingo Maurer – was personally tracked down, deeply analyzed, and authenticated by me.
I don't sell home furnishings. I sell the results of an uncompromising hunt for the extraordinary.
