Vladimir Kanevsky Green Cabbage Porcelain Tureen
Hand built and signed by the artist, in flawless condition, with written certificate of authenticity
Highlights: A rare hand built porcelain cabbage tureen by Vladimir Kanevsky, the Ukrainian born, New Jersey based sculptor whose lifelike porcelain flowers and botanicals are collected by Oscar de la Renta, Valentino and Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis. In 2025 the Frick Collection commissioned more than thirty of his porcelain works for the reopening of its Fifth Avenue mansion, placing his art beside Vermeer, Rembrandt and Goya. This example is a studio original, signed Vladimir, in flawless condition, and accompanied by a written confirmation of authenticity from Mrs. Kanevsky.
Description: The cabbage tureen is one of Kanevsky's signature forms. His career in porcelain began with an eighteenth century style tureen made for interior designer Howard Slatkin, and the naturalistic vegetable tureen soon became a hallmark of his studio; Christian Dior alone commissioned fifteen cabbage shaped tureens. Each piece is built entirely by hand, with leaves shaped, glazed, fired and assembled one by one to capture the texture and colour of a living savoy cabbage. Kanevsky signs his porcelain with his first name, Vladimir, reserving his surname for his bronze and resin work, so the Vladimir signature marks this as an authentic piece of his porcelain oeuvre. The green tureen comes complete with its lid and makes a striking centrepiece or a collectible art object for the serious connoisseur.
Condition: Flawless. No chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration.
