Description:
This is an original Philips NB92/93 pendant lamp, its design attributed to Louis Kalff — the designer who shaped Philips' visual identity and product design for decades, including the company's famous shield logo. The wide, gently flared metal shade is finished in a soft olive lacquer and perforated with a ring of slotted vents around its lower edge, casting a delicate pattern of light when illuminated. Suspended inside the shade is a ring-shaped diffuser in opaline glass, held in place by slender wire hooks — a construction that lets the lamp emit both a warm, diffused downward glow and a soft halo of light through the shade's perforations. Four small round vents encircle the neck of the shade, continuing the perforated theme.
Louis Kalff and Philips: Louis Kalff (1897–1976) joined Philips in 1925 and went on to lead the company's advertising and design department for decades, shaping Philips' visual identity — including its well-known shield logo — as well as a wide range of its lighting products. His work for Philips helped define Dutch industrial design of the mid-20th century, combining functional clarity with a distinctive graphic sensibility.
Condition:
The lamp is in good vintage condition overall, with the warm, even patina expected of an original 1950s piece. Please note a fine hairline crack in the lacquer at the neck of the shade, visible in the detail photos — this is a surface-level crack in the paint finish and does not affect the structural integrity or function of the lamp. The opaline glass diffuser ring is in very good condition with no chips or cracks.

This lamp is an original vintage piece. Prior to sale, a visual and functional inspection was carried out (cable, plug, socket, strain relief) as well as a test run. It has not been comprehensively tested in accordance with current VDE standards. Due to its age, the electrical components may pose risks (e.g. aged insulation, missing earth conductor). Before connecting to the 230V mains, it is therefore strongly recommended to have the lamp inspected and, if necessary, updated by a qualified electrician. Use is at the owner's own risk.
