Description: This table lamp by AV Mazzega is a sculptural tour de force of Murano glassmaking at its most expressive. Attributed to Carlo Nason — the designer most closely associated with AV Mazzega's most celebrated works of the 1960s and 1970s — the lamp combines two of the era's defining design impulses: the organic, hand-formed quality of traditional Murano craft and the bold, forward-looking geometry of Space Age design.
The shade is handblown from Murano glass in a dramatic swirl pattern of interwoven amber and opal white glass masses. Each piece is unique by definition — no two Murano swirl shades are identical — and this example is particularly striking in the density and movement of its patterning. When lit, the amber tones warm and deepen, casting a rich, atmospheric light that transforms any room it inhabits. Unlit, the shade reads as a standalone sculptural object of considerable presence.
The base is equally considered: a stepped construction of stacked chrome discs that echoes the geometric confidence of the Space Age aesthetic while providing a precise visual counterpoint to the organic fluidity of the glass above. The combination of handblown Murano glass and polished chrome hardware is a hallmark of the finest AV Mazzega production.
AV Mazzega, founded in 1946 by Angelo Vittorio Mazzega on the island of Murano, became one of the twentieth century's most significant lighting manufacturers, working with designers including Carlo Nason to create lamps that are today recognised as works of applied art. This table lamp is a strong example of that legacy.
Condition: The lamp is in very good vintage condition. The Murano glass shade is intact. There is one minor chip on the glass shade which is not visible once the shade is mounted in its normal position — fully documented in the photographs. The chrome base is polished and intact. The electrical components are functional; inspection by a qualified electrician is recommended before use.

Product Safety
This lamp is an original vintage piece. Prior to sale, a visual and functional inspection was carried out (cable, plug, socket, strain relief) as well as a test run. It has not been comprehensively tested in accordance with current VDE standards. Due to its age, the electrical components may pose risks (e.g. aged insulation, missing earth conductor). Before connecting to the 230V mains, it is therefore strongly recommended to have the lamp inspected and, if necessary, updated by a qualified electrician. Use is at the owner's own risk.
