Collectible Ferdinand Solère for Solere Paris — Desk Lamp, Bordeaux Red, France, 1950s
An expressive French desk lamp by Solere Paris from the 1950s. The lamp captivates with its hemispherical bordeaux red metal shade, the adjustable brass arm, and the striking combination of industrial functionality and elegant detailing.
Highlights: Designer/Manufacturer: Ferdinand Solère for Solere Paris, France, 1950s Rare early Solere desk lamp with embossed "Solere Paris" signature on base and arm Original bordeaux red lacquer and brass details throughout Integrated switch in the reflector Original French bayonet socket Ideal for desk, studio, reading corner, or collectors of design and industrial objects
Description: This desk lamp was designed and produced in the 1950s by Ferdinand Solère for Solere Paris. Particularly characteristic are the hemispherical metal shade — bordeaux red on the exterior with a white reflecting interior — the angular brass arm with embossed "Solere" lettering, and the heavy round metal base with inset brass element. The lamp unites functional, directed task lighting with the clear, technical design language of French industrial design of the 1950s, and works equally well as a usable desk lamp and as a decorative collector's piece. In the room it reads as graphic, elegant, and lightly industrial. It is particularly effective on a desk, sideboard, or in a reading corner combined with wood, leather, raw steel, or other Mid-Century and industrial elements.
Condition: Age-appropriate good vintage condition with visible but attractive patina and signs of use. The shade and base lacquer show scratches, edge abrasion, and minor paint chips; the brass parts display tarnishing and discolouration that underline the authentic character of the lamp. The electrics are functional but do not necessarily conform to current technical standards and should be inspected by a qualified electrician before use.
Collectible and Decorative Object: This object is offered exclusively as a historical collectible and decorative object. The existing electrics have not been updated and do not conform to current technical standards. Connection to 230V is expressly not recommended for safety reasons. In its current condition the object is not suitable for electrical operation and is not sold as a functioning electrical appliance. Should electrical use be desired, complete rewiring by a licensed electrician is mandatory. Responsibility for any electrical commissioning rests solely with the buyer.
