Highlights:
Designer/Manufacturer: H. Th. J. A. Busquet for Hala Zeist Lampenfabriek Period: 1950s (design 1956) Origin: Zeist, Netherlands Style: Mid-Century Modern / Dutch Design Distinctive features: height and angle adjustable; conical aluminium shade with decorative star perforation, white lacquered interior for optimal light reflection; multifunctional as desk, table, or wall lamp thanks to integrated wall hook on the base Ideal for: desk, studio, reading corner, collectors of Dutch and Mid-Century design

Description:
This desk lamp was designed in 1956 by Herman Theodoor Jan Anthoin Busquet for Hala Zeist Lampenfabriek. Particularly characteristic are the conical aluminium shade in coral red/salmon with decorative star perforation at the lower rim, the adjustable chrome arm with ball joint, and the practical tripod base in black lacquered metal. The white lacquered interior of the shade ensures a smooth, pleasant light distribution.
The Pinocchio is one of the best-known models from Hala Zeist, produced from the 1950s into the 1960s — initially with star perforation, later with round holes, and finally also without perforation. The lamp combines functional, directed task lighting with the clear, graphic design language of Dutch industrial design, and works equally as a usable desk lamp and as a decorative collector's piece.
In the room it reads as graphic, sculptural, and playfully elegant. It is particularly effective on a desk, sideboard, or in a reading corner, in combination with wood, other Mid-Century elements, or Scandinavian design.

Condition:
Age-appropriate good vintage condition with visible but attractive patina and signs of use. The shade and base lacquer show minor scratches, edge abrasion, and minimal paint chips; chrome parts display light tarnishing and discolouration that underline the authentic character of the lamp. The electrics are functional but should be inspected by a qualified electrician before use.

Product Safety

This lamp is an original vintage piece. Prior to sale, a visual and functional inspection was carried out (cable, plug, socket, strain relief) as well as a test run. It has not been comprehensively tested in accordance with current VDE standards. Due to its age, the electrical components may pose risks (e.g. aged insulation, missing earth conductor). Before connecting to the 230V mains, it is therefore strongly recommended to have the lamp inspected and, if necessary, updated by a qualified electrician. Use is at the owner's own risk.

Manufacturer

Hala Zeist – Dutch Design Lighting Manufacturer Hala (Hala Nederlandse Lampenfabriek N.V.) was founded in 1932 by Herman Theodoor Jan Anthoin Busquet in Zeist, the Netherlands, and developed into one of the most renowned Dutch lighting manufacturers. The company name "Hala" derives from its German cooperation partner, the Hannoversche Lampenfabrik. Herman Busquet (1914–1977) was founder, director and designer in one person. The company began by importing German lamps and, after the Second World War, started its own production of affordable, functional metal lamps. Among the best-known Hala classics are the Pinocchio table lamp (1954/1956), model 144 and the Sun series (1955). The simple, functional designs of the 1950s and 1960s were awarded by the Dutch foundation "Goed Wonen". After Busquet's death in 1977, the company changed ownership several times, relocated to Amersfoort and ceased production in 2013. The brand rights passed to Maretti Lighting, who continued to produce some classic models until around 2015.
