Hala Zeist Model 144 Desk Lamp, Black, 1950s Germany
Adjustable Dome Desk Lamp with Upgraded Stainless Steel Locking Hardware
Highlights:
Iconic dome-shade desk lamp by Hala Zeist, model 144, fully finished in black including the switch and cord. The original locking screws have been replaced with high-quality V2A (stainless steel) knurled nuts and bolts for tool-free adjustment.
Description:
This desk lamp was originally fitted with plain slotted screws at both pivot points — one at the shade, one at the base — meaning a screwdriver was required every time the angle or height needed to be adjusted. We replaced both with high-grade V2A stainless steel knurled nuts and bolts, so the lamp can now be locked and released by hand, without tools, while keeping the original look of the mechanism.
The lamp is kept entirely in black, including the cord and switch, giving it a clean, graphic silhouette typical of 1950s German design. It carries visible signs of its age: small areas of touched-up lacquer loss and minor dents from decades of use. Rather than detracting from the piece, these traces are part of its character — the quiet patina of a lamp that has been in daily use for roughly 70 years.
Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Small lacquer losses have been touched up; minor dents are present. Locking mechanism upgraded to stainless steel (V2A) knurled nuts and bolts in place of the original slotted screws. Fully functional, rewired in black.

Product Safety
This lamp is an original vintage piece. Prior to sale, a visual and functional inspection was carried out (cable, plug, socket, strain relief) as well as a test run. It has not been comprehensively tested in accordance with current VDE standards. Due to its age, the electrical components may pose risks (e.g. aged insulation, missing earth conductor). Before connecting to the 230V mains, it is therefore strongly recommended to have the lamp inspected and, if necessary, updated by a qualified electrician. Use is at the owner's own risk.
